Community concept proposal

One Community Space. Many Ways to Play, Connect and Celebrate.

A flexible community precinct designed for everyday sport, children's play, youth development, exercise, markets, concerts and outdoor movies.

The concept at a glance

Four ideas carry the whole proposal.

Multisport Hardcourt

Four adjoining pickleball courts that convert into compact basketball and netball courts, fitness space or one open event surface.

Flexible Football

Movable fencing, portable goals and removable nets create teen, adult and junior zones that can be regrouped for each session.

Inclusive Playground

A permanent, inclusive children's playground along the western edge with shade, seating, safe surfacing and clear sightlines.

Community Events

A covered northern stage and screen for concerts, outdoor movies, markets, school events and community celebrations.

From two single-use areas to one flexible precinct

This alternative proposal reorganises roughly the same recreation footprint so that it can carry far more community activity.

The proposal retains the existing recreation footprint while converting it into a flexible community precinct. The former 40 × 40 metre bowls area becomes a clearable multisport hardcourt containing four adjoining pickleball courts, with convertible small-sided basketball and netball use. The adjoining 30 × 15 metre football area supports teen, adult and junior football and can be divided using movable fencing for ages 6–9 and 8–12 programmes. Sports equipment and internal fencing can be removed so that the same areas support markets, concerts, outdoor movies and community events.

Community benefits

What the community gains from a flexible precinct.

More activities from the same space

One footprint carries sport, play, wellness, markets and performance instead of a single fixed use.

Something for every age

Children, teenagers, adults and seniors each have activities suited to them.

Flexible age-based football

Movable divisions let coaches group players by age, development and ability.

Improved access to sport

Low-barrier, walk-up activities close to home for the whole community.

Health and wellness support

Space for yoga, low-impact classes, rehabilitation and school physical education.

Revenue and fundraising

Markets, concerts and events create opportunities to fund upkeep and programmes.

Help shape the concept

Residents, coaches, schools, community organisations and potential sponsors are invited to contribute ideas before anything is taken further.
